MDCAT Eligibility: Marks, Domicile, Age and Documents

To get into MBBS or BDS you generally need FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent with at least 60% marks, and an MDCAT score of 55% for MBBS or 50% for BDS. The details below explain how this works.

Sitting the test and getting a seat are two separate steps. The MDCAT registration rules decide whether you can sit the test. The admission policy of your province or university decides whether you can get a seat. You need to meet both.

Eligibility at a glance

RequirementWhat recent rules say
Intermediate marksMinimum 60%, for example 660/1100, in HSSC Pre-Medical or equivalent
SubjectsBiology and Chemistry, plus a pass in Physics or Mathematics (Punjab 2026-27, as reported)
MDCAT scoreAt least 55% for MBBS and 50% for BDS
AgeNo upper limit reported under PM&DC rules
DomicileDecides your test centre and your admission quota
A Level or foreign studyIBCC equivalence is required

One education site reports a 65% FSc requirement, but it marks this as unverified. SZABMU's admission FAQ for 2026-27 states 60%, so that is the figure we use. Check the policy for your year.

MDCAT result validity

The result stays valid for three years, across Pakistan. This means you may be able to use a good score for a later admission cycle, and that a weak score does not end your chances, because you can sit the test again. Check which years your admitting university accepts.

Documents required for admission

This is the list from SZABMU's 2026-27 FAQ. It is a good example of what to prepare, but other universities may differ.

Their online upload rules allowed JPEG or JPG files only, with a limit of 800 KB per document, so scan your documents early.

Meeting the minimums will not be enough for a public college seat. Use the aggregate calculator to see where you stand, then compare your score using our merit list guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the age limit for MDCAT?

PM&DC rules are widely reported as having no upper age limit. Provincial admission policies can add conditions, so read the policy for the province you are applying to.

Is domicile required for MDCAT?

It is needed for most candidates. In 2026 you could normally sit the test only in your province or region of domicile, and SZABMU says domicile is mandatory for admission on a domicile-based quota. Candidates for foreign seats do not need one.

How long is an MDCAT result valid?

Three years, across Pakistan, according to Section 17 of the PM&DC Act as quoted by universities and education sites. For example, SZABMU accepted MDCAT 2024, 2025 and 2026 results for its 2026-27 session.

Can I use an MDCAT result from another province?

Yes. The result is reported as valid across the country, and SZABMU accepted results from UHS, KMU, BUMHS, IBA Sukkur and SZABMU. Your quota still depends on your domicile.

Can I take MDCAT again to improve my score?

Yes, students commonly retake it. Before you do, check which score your admitting university will use, and remember that you have to register and pay again.

Can I take MDCAT with FSc Part 1 only?

You should check the notice for your year. Even if the test accepts you, you still need your final FSc result with the required marks to be admitted.
